About Our Research

The BC Renal network is mandated to:
  • Facilitate and support high-calibre research and quality improvement studies to inform better care and treatment of patients
  • Translate this information into knowledge for other health care practitioners, and when possible, patients
  • Foster local, national, and international collaborations for knowledge exchange
  • Facilitate the provision of training and mentoring of physicians, scientists and patient partners who are interested in conducting research
The BC Renal network actively gathers and uses knowledge from studies to make evidence-informed decisions for health services management and delivery. Following the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement Assessment Guide, we actively pursue activities that acquire, assess, adapt, and apply studies to build capacity and translate research into quality care.

BC Renal supports kidney care professionals and other partners on a broad range of local, provincial and international research projects. A list of BC’s kidney research specialities can be found on the  BC Kidney Research Collaboratory’s website. The Collaboratory is a longstanding partner of BC Renal. It offers services that help British Columbia’s community of kidney researchers do their best work, leading to better treatment and care for people living with kidney disease.

BC Renal is also a partner in the Can-SOLVE CKD Network, a national partnership of patients, researchers, health care providers, and policymakers working to transform treatment and care for Canadians affected by chronic kidney disease.

BC health authority renal/kidney programs are also committed to ongoing quality improvement (QI), with numerous local and provincial QI initiatives underway at any given time. To learn more about some of these initiatives, visit the Reports from the RRP/PD Projects page.
