  1. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Recognize the causes, risk factors, and clinical consequences of hyperkalemia in CKD.
  2. Interpret and assess hyperkalemia in outpatient practice, including identification of urgent or high-risk presentations.
  3. Apply evidence-based strategies to manage chronic hyperkalemia while optimizing cardiorenal protective therapies such as RAAS inhibitors.
  4. Compare pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment options, including dietary approaches (including individualized dietary approaches and the role of plant-based diets in CKD), diuretics, bicarbonate therapy, and newer potassium binders such as Patiromer and Sodium Zirconium Cyclosilicate.
  5. Incorporate multidisciplinary and patient-centred approaches to the long-term management of hyperkalemia in CKD within the BC Renal care setting.
