Beyond the Glomerulus: Complement Signaling and Chronic Kidney Injury in IgA Nephropathy
This presentation will provide a translational overview of complement biology in IgA nephropathy, with emphasis on mechanisms rather than clinical treatment recommendations. Learning objectives are to:
- Review mechanisms of complement-mediated kidney injury in IgAN,
- Discuss emerging translational evidence linking complement biology to disease progression, including current work integrating serum C3/C4 measurements, kidney pathology, and biopsy transcriptomics to investigate complement-associated inflammatory and fibrotic remodeling.
- Review the mechanistic rationale behind current complement-targeted clinical trials in IgAN.
The overall focus will be on how clinical observations and molecular data can be integrated to understand why and where complement contributes to progressive kidney injury.
