After more than 15 years as a project manager with BC Renal, Janet Williams is retiring to begin new adventures. Janet’s focus has been managing the work of the provincial Hemodialysis and Kidney Care committees, and she has also worked closely with the Renal Educators and Vascular Access Educators groups.

“I feel so lucky to have worked with BC Renal,” says Janet. “It has been a pleasure for me to work with such an amazing group of dedicated clinicians and staff, all of whom share a common goal of providing the best possible care for patients. That explains why I came for the short-term and stayed for the long-term!”

We reached out to a few colleagues to share their thoughts about Janet’s role and contributions over the years, and they all echoed the significant impact she’s had on clinical care and improving the lives of people living with kidney disease across the province.

From Dr. Mike Bevilacqua, nephrologist, Fraser Health, and chair, BC Renal provincial Kidney Care Committee:

“I have had the privilege of partnering with and learning from Janet within the Kidney Care Committee, and she has been without a doubt the engine that has driven the committee work and brought it all to fruition.

Whenever there has been a guideline, project or idea that has come to the committee, no matter how big or challenging, Janet has had an unparalleled ability to take those ideas and translate them into real world actions and activities that improve kidney care. This is no small feat, and possible only through her profound understanding of the systems we work in, her great dedication to the work of improving patient care, and the personal connections she has with kidney care providers across BC.

Through her efforts and dedication over the years, Janet has immeasurably enhanced the lives of British Columbians living with kidney disease. She will be sorely missed, but we wish her all the happiness, fun - and knowing Janet - great adventures that she is sure to seek out in this next chapter!”

From Tamara Graham, BC Renal patient partner:

"A big thank you to Janet for always making me feel like patients matter to BC Renal. I have worked with Janet on many projects for the past five years and feel very grateful for her contributions. Wishing her all the best in her retirement."

From Dr. John Antonsen, nephrologist, Island Health, and former chair, BC Renal provincial Hemodialysis Committee:

“Janet helped us launch the BC Hemodialysis Committee back in 2014, and in the decade we worked together, she was the engine that kept our work moving forward. Impeccably organized, inquisitive, and always forward thinking, Janet has been integral to the committee’s leadership. Her good nature, sense of humour and candor are always appreciated. Thank you Janet!”

From Alexis Whatley, manager, administrative operations, BC Renal:

“Working alongside Janet since 2009 has truly been a ride! Her freight train-like ability to transform ideas into action is unmatched. I’ve learned more from Janet than I ever could in a classroom, and the far-reaching impact of the many projects and initiatives she has worked on is only matched by her genuine awesomeness. Janet’s warmth, humility and very contagious laugh have made working with her a real pleasure over the years. The breadth of her contributions to kidney care in BC is vast, to say the least, and I know her impact will be felt across the province for years to come.”

From Dr. Adeera Levin, executive director, BC Renal:

"Janet has been an incredible addition to the BC Renal community and family: her dedication, honesty, professionalism and compassion have facilitated so many great initiatives, it's impossible to count. She is an amazingly efficient and kind person to work with as a senior project manager. She will be missed, but I absolutely understand and appreciate the need for transitioning. Best of luck Janet on the next part of your life journey!"

From all of us at BC Renal, we wish Janet an exciting future, and extend many thanks for her enthusiasm, expertise and years of service!
