Between November 25, 2020 and March 11, 2021, individuals who had creatinine and eGFR tests processed at several laboratories across British Columbia received inaccurate results. These results showed lower kidney function than was actually the case.
The cause was a manufacturing defect in a substance used for the tests, and has been corrected.
When alerted of this situation, BC Renal contacted nephrologists (kidney doctors) across the province and advised retesting where appropriate.
Patients who had creatinine/eGFR tests during this period are encouraged to discuss with their physician if they have any concerns or questions.
